Escola de superpoderes – mentoring and nurturing talents of young people at risk of social exclusion
The Escola de Superpoderes (Superpowers School) is a space where anyone can discover their hidden talents develop them with mentoring support, and use them to transform their community.
These schools can operate anywhere, in a school, in a courtyard or even in a prison. This methodology created by the Associação Juvenil Transformers offers a social franchising model that any municipality, institution, organisation or company can have. In very simple terms, volunteer mentors share their talents with groups of mentees who may be children or young people at risk of social exclusion and/or school failure, teaching a specific activity every week during the school year period, with the aim of increasing the social awareness of the group through payback – giving back to the community all that has been learnt, minimising or solving a social problem.
